This is no trick…Just a treat from us! We’ve compiled Philly’s spookiest attractions for this Halloween season.
For over one hundred years, the ESP housed around 75,000 inmates, including the infamous Al Capone. In 1994, it became an official historic site. Their annual Halloween Nights attraction is Philly must-see, as it blends history with terror featuring five haunted houses & more! If you’re too scared to go at night, there’s daytime tours too. (P.S. There’s a beer garden here too!)
Only about an hour outside the city awaits a night of Halloween scares at Bates Motel in Glen Mills. Walk (or run) through the haunted motel, featuring themed rooms with frights around every corner. Take a ride on their haunted hayride which has been updated to be even scarier for this Halloween season! Finish the night by walking along their haunted trail which is packed with animatronics, characters, sound effects, and lights. This attraction is the perfect one-stop to get into the Halloween spirit with friends and family. Check out tickets here.
Another Philly-favorite is the Fright Factory, located in the basement of a 120+ year old factory…I’m already scared. It features 3 scream-worthy themes and only one way out. The Travel Channel voted this spot as one of America’s scariest attractions. Buy your tickets here.
Last but not least is the Pennhurst Asylum located in Spring City, about an hour from the city. This was a real institution that closed its doors in 1987. A clash between preserving its historic story and development into an attraction has been a point of contention among locals. Fun fact: The building was featured in the hit tv show, Stranger Things! This attraction has a trio of scares including the asylum, morgue, & terrifying tunnels. Craving more? Book an overnight visit for paranormal investigations of the haunted Mayflower Hall.
